The Department of Public Works maintains County-owned roadways, buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure throughout Tioga County. Public Works also houses the Buildings and Grounds Department and the Solid Waste Department. The Solid Waste Department runs the County-Wide Curbside Recycling Program.
The Department of Public Works maintains the County roadways, bridges, and additional drainage structures to provide safe, driveable roads for the residents of Tioga County. Each year roads are resurfaced and repaired, bridges, culverts, and other drainage structures are repaired and replaced, and general highway maintenance is performed throughout the County. This work is performed with safety as the first priority as well as utilizing funds in an efficient manner.
The Department of Public Works removes snow and ice from the County roadways throughout the winter months each year. It is a priority to the Department to maintain safe, passable travel-ways during inclement winter weather. Public safety is the Department's top priority.
The Buildings and Grounds Department maintains and improves County-owned buildings and facilities. Buildings and Grounds' goal is to maintain a safe, clean, and energy efficient environments where County functions can be performed. They construct new facilities, remodel existing spaces, and improve facility operational equipment to create healthy and safe environments for County employees to work and interact with Tioga County residents.
